Case 32

History: abdominal/pelvic pain

Looking for both the findings and etiology

OK. This was a tough one. I didn’t mention any trauma in the history (and it’s atraumatic).

The findings are the pubic symphysis and the SI joints are all widened. But what about the edges of the bone? there is resorption all all 3 sites.

Answer: subchondral bone resorption at the pubic symphysis and SI joints from hyperparathyroidism (I believe the patient has chronic renal disease)
